Sometimes, it is hard to close the laptop. You have one, two, or ten clients to balance and while walking away and being "you" for a bit seems impossible, make it possible.
We are no good to ourselves or our clients if we are barely hanging on by a thread. Taking the time to walk away is key and finding those moments and people to socialize and spend time with once you walk away is also a major key to freelancers mental and physical well-being.
Last night, Socially Dedicated's team took a trip down to the marina in Philadelphia for some yoga and photography. Our friend Tonya, of A Journey To Fit, wanted to gather many Philadelphia fitness enthusiasts along with Philly creatives--including freelancers for a night to meet each other and have a good time. Needless to say, working as freelancers, we are always on and this was a difficult moment to walk away from responsibilities, but was much needed.
We were greeted with Core Water and Philadelphia pretzels as well as Vea Fitness bringing together much of the evening. Yoga was performed by Octavia of 215 Yoga who was able to get us all zenned out and stretched. It was a great night with great weather and even greater company. You can tell many of the men and women there were excited to be able to do yoga at the marina and also just excited to be away from their lives for a little bit.
So why am I telling you about this evening? Well, beyond the fact that it was a lovely time, it was also a great collaborative effort for many different entities working together to bring together a group of people looking to get a little escape from their life and job. For an hour or so, we were treated to physical activity, food, drinks, and friends. These things are key to success and also a portion of freelancers lives that we tend to fall off from when we are bogged down from work.
Having the support systems and companies out there wanted to create a space for both 9-5 workers and freelancers combined to get together, chat, and unwind for a bit is what makes life worth living. Don't forget to take care of you, get out of the house, and do something--whether it be yoga at the Philadelphia marina or whatever suits your fancy.
As always, thanks again to Core Water, Vea Fitness, 215 Yoga, and A Journey To Fit for putting together a great evening in The City Of Brotherly Love.
