One thing small business owners know is that no two days will be exactly the same. One day can run smoothly and the next day you are just hoping it will end. While this makes for a “never know what you’re gonna get” kind of lifestyle, it also makes it so that you never truly have a “routine” either.
What is one thing you could be missing due to a lack of routine that could be throwing your day off? One word–BREAKFAST!
It is ingrained in our mind that breakfast is important, but why is it really? Here are some thoughts as to why you should consider making that the one consistent thing in your daily life:
It gets you ready for the day
This may seem cliche, but the energy from a hearty breakfast really can keep you going throughout the day more than any size cup of coffee can ever do. Breakfasts full of protein and complex carbs truly can keep your mind more alert.
Breakfast allows you to work more efficiently
It’s noon time and you’ve hit your slump. You need that coffee or to snack on something so you grab a candy bar. Not only did you have to walk away to make or get the coffee and find the candy bar, but you will most likely walk away an hour later when you are hungry again. Breakfast keeps you full longer and can stretch out your morning when you are working most efficiently.
You will simply feel better
Have you ever skipped a meal and are stuck at a meeting or in traffic? The minutes drag on as your stomach gurgles a loud tune. You feel tired, achy, angry and so many other negative feelings. Making sure to stock up in the morning will give you a little more leeway in case of a run-on meeting, a customer request or any other situation that may arise between open and lunch time.
Breakfast gives you consistency
Even the most adventurous people enjoy a bit of consistency in their life. Making it a point to sit and enjoy 15 to 20 minutes out of your day eating peacefully can be a great neutral point in your day. You aren’t worried about work or life, you are simply there fueling up for the day. It will give you a few moments to really look forward to each day before it’s time to work.
We love breakfast and think it is a super important meal, but maybe you have another neutral point in your day. Care to share? Go for it!
